Hardware...stuff

So we just did out exams and were now going over bits and pieces that our class werent so known to..

So we had to find out what the following are:
  • Primary Memory
  • Secondary Memory
  • Barcode Readers
  • Magnectic Strip Reader
  • RFID
  • Smart card

So in my group "LCM", we decided to divide the jobs between us

Primary and Secondary Memory will be done by Maxinee

Magnectic Strip and Barcode Readers will be done by Louisa

and i will be doing RFID and Smart cards.

Also whilst doing this we need to consider the technology involved and what technology is needed to function its purpose.

Tools For Processing

Today we looking at

CPU(Central Processing) - the main hardware used for processing

what are the different sorts of CPU's?

  • core 2 Duo - (Intel produced)

There is an enormous range of Cpu's and their name implies with what processers their buit for. Well Processors are the things in your hardrive that take intruction in and processes it..feed through linerly..

duo... means they can double the process done at the same time

processor speed unit... it operates at so many.."gigahertz"(GHTz) is one

Hertz - is how many cycles per second - unit of measurement of how rapid things work

Processors have clock in which has Clock Cycle - determine how quick intructions can come in and be processed out.The more Hertz, the quicker the process works. We need to overlook this because its im

Only potential if the software uses this feature, the process need to formated into the software

Another Processor is "Quad Core" - also made by Intel

Instructions can be different sizes.... eg. 30 bit processor, 60 Bit Process

how big an instructions is - the bigger, the more complex and involved the intruction can be.

A unit of measure for instructions.

Maximum size an instruction cna be

All modern processors are 64 Bits.. the bigger, the expensive and complex to be made.

Depending teh software size, depends if they have

Arithemetic logic units - handles mathematical stuff within the core if the processor

do we need the most powerful processor? Depending the things ur doin,

If your doing graphic words, video Editing

There is a slightly newer processor "Core 17 Processor"

GRAPHIC PROCESSING

Another Type of Process - Graphic Processing - to do with games card

Graphic cards are used..when you have eg virtual games... they open you up to many process..

Ram card needs to hold a lot of something

the more ram the more buffs

CPU - RUNING dvd

Ram

Refresh Rate - how often it refreshes - 60 Hertz A Second

Ram that comes on your motherboard are used by your CPU AND Ram therefore you get very

cheaper to buy graphics card in Motherboard

1000 - kiloHertZ

1000000 - gIga

SOFTWARE PROCESSING

eg.Spreadsheets, and Data Basis (Excel)

eg of processing, When using pics and manipulating it - Graphic Process eg. Photoshop,

eg video EDITING software - Movie maker - processing video, manipulating it

Eg, sound files - ordasity - manipulate sounds

Process advance - verbal writing - u speak n the computer write it - process where your intructructions are interpreted and

-NEEDS EDITING!

Microsoft Offive Live Beta

Today sir, introduced us to a new microsoft program on the internet in which seemed kinda interesting. Its called Microsoft Office Live Space

check it outhttp://workspace.officelive.com/?cloc=en-AU

So, what is it?
Microsoft Office Live Workspace beta is your online place to save, access, and share documents and files. Use it to group related information for work, school, or personal projects. No downloads are required—just sign up and go. WOW!!

Microsoft Office Live Workspace allows you to;

  • Access files from anywhere

  • View documents from almost any computer with a Web browser

  • No more flash drives—files are there when and where you need them
Password-protected sharing; you control who views and edits your work

  • Work with programs you know

  • Save over 1,000 Microsoft Office documents in one online place

  • Open and save files from familiar programs like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Synchronize contact, task, and event lists with Outlook

Discuss the nature of the workplace with Microsoft Office Live Beta?

Advantages include;

  • No flashdrives required

  • Free

  • Allows you to share it to whomever you allow

  • no need for USB in order to transfer work documenets to and from home

  • they do all the setup and servers for you

  • less work required in at a personal level - no instalation needed; provided internally

  • includes spreadsheets

  • online work with resources and has its own resources

  • New and updates, has microsoft 2007 and may save either in a 2007 or 2003 format

Disadvantage include;

  • the requiering of a high internet capacity - fast internet

  • Although it may be similar to Google Docs, in order to work needs a browser

  • May have a file Limit, meaning for buissness purposes requires a large amount of storage

This whole system of working on the internet is called CLOUD COMPUTING.

Cloud computing is working on something on the internet, that is has both your application and data.

Another extra fact we learnt was that smartphones does voice recognition or speech recognition.

It is a type application in programs found on computers and even on phones now that convert spoken words to machine readable input, basically words. I'm guesssing this would muchly would be used for when you want subtitles on your tv, for live shows.

A while back..

while we were learning more about "information Process", sir showed us an awesome way to remeber them all..

C- ollecting
O- organising
A- analysing
S- storing and retrieving
T- ransmiting and recieving
P- processing
D- displaying

lol how awesome...

What we WERE doing..

heyy

a bit late, anywho

we were doing powerpoints based on the 5 different data types in an information system, basically the varied types of format one can communicate in an information system.

These include

  • videoeg.

  • text eg.

  • numbers

  • audio eg.mp3

  • image eg. JPEG, TIFF

so we did powerpoints as individuals, on the research we came up about these different data types of information system.

Term 1, Data Information System Assesment 1

12th of March and we kinda have recieved out 1st assesment.

Latley we've been talking about different social and ethical issues and as a group of three, we have to chose which infomormation system, we'd like to do aboutI

So what are we producing?

We can either present our research in powerpoints, movie, websites, wiki

Why are we making it?

present infomration to the rest of the class, providing a better understandin providing a resourse for other classes.

What are we looking at?

We are choosing, between a variety of information systems

  • facebook

  • youtube

  • Instant Messaging (IM)

  • Ebay

  • Online Banking

  • Google
Information system, exploring social and ethical issues, informationon tools relate to the system, roles of people in the system development team.

My group is called LCM'S and were doing IM (instant messenging)

LCM is made up of:

Louisa

maxinne

and me!

good luck to us
